A STUDENT WORKBOOK DESIGNED TO HELP STUDENTS LEARN AND RETAIN MATERIALS FROM A TEXTBOOK ON THE PRINCIPLES OF CRIMINAL INVESTIGATION (SEE NCJ-59339) IS PRESENTED.
Abstract
THE FIRST SECTION OF THE WORKBOOK CONTAINS QUESTIONS KEYED TO THE TEXTBOOK'S CHAPTERS ON THE INVESTIGATIVE PROCESS, LEGAL ASPECTS OF THE CRIMINAL INVESTIGATION, CONDUCTING INVESTIGATIONS, INVESTIGATIVE REPORTS, INTERVIEWING AND INTERROGATING, PROCESSING AND RECORDING THE CRIME SCENE, PROCESSING EVIDENCE FOUND AT THE SCENE, SOURCES OF INFORMATION FOR CRIMINAL INVESTIGATORS, THE SUSPECT, THE VICTIM AND WITNESS AS SOURCES OF INFORMATION, AND THE INVESTIGATOR IN COURT. THE SECOND SECTION CONSISTS OF CASE STUDIES WHICH OFFER STUDENTS AN OPPORTUNITY TO APPLY THEIR INVESTIGATIVE SKILLS. CASE STUDIES INCLUDE A BRIEF ACCOUNT OF THE FACTS, FOLLOWED BY QUESTIONS FORMULATED TO TEACH STUDENTS TO CONSIDER THE PROCESSES OF CRIMINAL INVESTIGATION. EACH CASE STUDY ASKS WHAT SOLVABILITY FACTORS ARE INVOLVED, WITH REFERENCE TO A TABLE LISTING 12 SUCH FACTORS. THE 27 CASE STUDIES INCLUDE AUTO THEFT, BURGLARY, HOMICIDE, LARCENY/THEFT, RAPE, ROBBERY, AND VICE OFFENSES. AN ANSWER KEY TO THE CASE STUDY QUESTIONS IS PROVIDED. SEE NCJ-59340 FOR AN INSTRUCTOR'S MANUAL ACCOMPANYING THE TEXT AND WORKBOOK. (LKM)
