This text provides the basic principles of security and loss prevention that are common to all areas of business and asset protection.
Abstract
The historical development of security and the current status of security services are reviewed. The threat environment, both internal and external, is discussed. Means for ensuring perimeter security are described, including fences and barriers, closed-circuit television, access controls, and traffic control. Detailed chapters on security devices provide glossaries and descriptions of various types of lighting systems, locks, electronic intrusion detection and alarm systems, and security storage containers. Issues and techniques relevant to fire prevention and safety, emergency, and disaster control are presented. The role of security personnel is described; guidelines are presented for recruiting, selecting, and training security personnel. Legal powers and limitations of private security personnel are discussed. Security education, career orientation, and professionalism also are covered.
