Abstract
MODERN PRISONS ARE EXAMINED WITH REGARD TO PHYSICAL CONDITIONS OF THE PRISONS THEMSELVES AND THE PSYCHOLOGICAL CONDITIONS THEY FOSTER. BRUTALITY IN PRISONS AND COURT LITIGATION CONTESTING CONDITIONS IN PENAL INSTITUTIONS ARE ALSO DISCUSSED.
