An argument is presented for a liberal education firmly grounded in the humanities as the most effective educational approach for encouraging cognitive/moral development in adult offenders.
Abstract
The paper reviews the argument for the link between cognition (reasoning) and criminal activity and describes the operation and evaluation of a university level prison education program in British Columbia, Canada. The results of a followup study of program graduates are reviewed and linked to the nature of the theoretical approach. (Author abstract)
