Abstract
THE ATTITUDE OF THE COURTS IS EXPLAINED AND THE LEGAL AND INSTITUTIONAL STRUCTURE OF THE PRISON SYSTEM IS BRIEFLY DESCRIBED. THESE ARE FOLLOWED BY DISCUSSIONS OF THE PRISONER'S ACCESS TO LAWYERS AND THE COURTS, COMPLAINTS MACHINERY, DISCIPLINARY PROCEDURES, AND COMMUNICATION WITH THE OUTSIDE WORLD. A POSTSCRIPT ANNOUNCES AMENDMENTS TO THE PRISON RULES PROPOSED AFTER A EUROPEAN COURT DECISION.
