Abstract
PART I IS INTENDED FOR A 3-HOUR COURSE ON THE TREATMENT OF PRISONERS AND PART II IS INTENDED FOR A 2-HOUR COURSE ON POSTCONVICTION REMEDIES AND PROCEEDINGS. INDIVIDUAL CHAPTERS DISCUSS JURISDICTION UNDER THE FEDERAL CIVIL RIGHTS ACT AND OTHER FEDERAL STATUTES, CRUEL AND UNUSUAL PUNISHMENT, DUE PROCESS IN PRISON PROCEEDINGS, FIRST AMENDMENT RIGHTS, AND LEGAL ASSISTANCE AND ACCESS TO THE COURTS. THE SUBJECT OF MEDICAL TREATMENT IN PRISON IS FOLLOWED BY CHAPTERS ON LIABILITY AND DAMAGES, PROTECTION AGAINST DISCRIMINATION, AND PERSONAL LIBERTIES AND PROPERTY RIGHTS. GOOD BEHAVIOR ALLOWANCES AND JAIL TIME CREDIT ARE ALSO INCLUDED AS WELL AS CIVIL DISABILITIES AND RESTORATION OF RIGHTS.
