DESCRIPTION OF THE APPLICABILITY OF CRISIS INTERVENTION THEORY TO THE WIVES AND FAMILIES OF PRISONERS, WHICH DETAILS THE SPECIFIC KINDS OF CASEWORK INTERVENTIONS NEEDED.
Abstract
DISCUSSED ARE THE IMPACT ON FAMILY RELATIONSHIPS, THE LACK OF ACCESS TO PRE AND POST-SENTENCE INFORMATION, AND THE NEED FOR FINANCIAL AND OTHER ASSISTANCE EXPERIENCED BY THE WIVES AND GIRLFRIENDS OF PRISONERS, THE AUTHOR COMPARE THESE PRESSURES TO THOSE EXPERIENCED BY FAMILIES AT OTHER TIMES OF LOSS (SUCH AS DEATH OF A FAMILY MEMBER) AND ASSERT THAT SOCIAL WORK INTERVENTION, IN THE FORM OF A COURT-ATTACHED REACH-OUT AND REFERRAL PROGRAM IS NEEDED STARTING AT THE TIME THE PRISON SENTENCE BEGINS. SUPPORTIVE EMOTIONAL COUNSELING IS ALSO IDENTIFIED AS AN ESSENTIAL PART OF THIS PROGRAM.
