Abstract
An overview of the general situation is given, followed by a summary of receptions, population trends, and other statistics. Inmate training, education, and recreation programs are described, as are prison industries and employment, the building program, health and hygiene, and welfare and preparation for release. The system's administration and staff organization are also reviewed. Appendixes list prisons showing use and occupancy, average daily population by type of custody and sex of various years, and receptions under sentence by type of sentence, age, previously proved offenses, analysis of previous offenses, institution and length of sentence, sentencing court and other criteria. Receptions under 21 are listed separately by similar criteria. Additional tables concern punishments and offenses, employment of prisoners and inmates, details of persons released under supervision, prison staffs, and a statement of expenditures.
