Abstract
The inmate programs reviewed include inmate employment, education, vocational training, physical training and recreation, camping, community service, religious services, social work, and the involvement of outside agencies. The information on inmate accommodations addresses progress in new prison construction and renovation as well as maintenance. The discussion of security provides data on escapes and abscondings. The section on staff considers recruitment, training, promotion, examinations, inspection, industrial relations, and staff quarters. The appendixes provide data on prison use and occupancy along with the use and occupancy of legalized police cells. Comparative tables on inmate population and admissions cover 1972-82. Extensive tabular data are provided for 1982.
