THIS ARTICLE BRIEFLY EXAMINES THE PROVISIONS OF THE PRIVACY ACT OF 1974, AND OUTLINES THE FEATURES OF TWO ADDITIONAL PRIVACY BILLS WHICH WERE INTRODUCED IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES DURING 1975.
Abstract
THE TWO PROPOSED BILLS DISCUSSED IN THIS ARTICLE ARE THE CRIMINAL JUSTICE INFORMATION CONTROL AND PROTECTION ACT OF 1975 AND THE COMPREHENSIVE RIGHT TO PRIVACY ACT. THE FIRST BILL WOULD PROVIDE CERTAIN REGULATIONS ON THE USE AND DISTRIBUTION OF CRIMINAL JUSTICE INFORMATION, WHILE THE SECOND BILL WAS DESIGNED TO EXTEND TO STATE AND LOCAL GOBERNMENTS AND THE PRIVATE SECTOR THOSE SAFEGUARDS NOW IMPOSED ON FEDERAL AGENCIES BY THE PRIVACY ACT OF 19749
