Abstract
The first chapter describes the historical foundations of private security, beginning in the Middle Ages and Colonial America, the period of the creation of the Pinkerton security organization and western expansion, and finally, the era of contemporary private security. The second chapter discusses regulation, licensing, education, and training issues relevant to those seeking to enter the private security profession. The third chapter explores the law of search and seizure as it applies to the private sector. Two subsequent chapters examine the civil and criminal liability of private security personnel.
