This chapter outlines the policies and procedures relating to probation under the Federal Comprehensive Crime Control Act of 1984 (CCCA).
Abstract
Under CCCA, because probation is considered as a sentence in itself and not simply a modification of another sentence or sanction, it must be considered on the same basis as other alternative sanctions. The following statutory elements are discussed in detail: eligibility for probation; imposition of a sentence of probation; conditions of probation; term of probation; supervision of probationers; arrest and return of probationers; revocation of probation; and special probation provisions for first-offense drug possessors. 212 footnotes.
