This handbook is used by probationary deputies in Frederick County (Maryland) in the course of their training under a field training officer to ensure that they have obtained the experience and/or knowledge required during the field-training period.
Abstract
Each of 12 sections focuses on a major aspect of police performance and functions expected of a Frederick County sheriff's deputy. A list of tasks and activities is provided for each performance area. Beside each item on the list is a place for the field training officer and the probationary deputy to place their initials and the date to show that the probationary deputy has reviewed/performed the task. The 12 areas of performance and knowledge are vehicle pursuit and use of deadly force (may not be performed, but knowledge and guidance in these areas should be imparted), use of the field reporting manual, traffic/criminal citations, arrest procedures and processing prisoners, traffic law enforcement, criminal law enforcement, juvenile matters and procedures, dispatched-calls procedures, crime-scene procedures, computer systems, and case preparation/court system.
