Designed for inmates, the manual presents regulations and programs available at the New Hampshire State Prison.
Abstract
The manual emphasizes the importance of inmates maintaining a positive attitude, self-respect, and dignity. A general guide for avoiding problems in confinement includes advice on selecting friends, proper use of confinement time, and relations with the staff. A section on general information and procedures outlines staff responsibilities, reception and quarantine procedures, medical/dental procedures and the mental health unit. The section also explains the functions of prison boards, good conduct time, inmate pay, education and training opportunities, and the prerelease program. Information on warrants and detainers, inmate complaints and grievances, gate money, and tours of the prison conclude the section. Another section focusing on prison rules establishes general rules of conduct, characterizes punishable conduct, and sets forth the regulations on such everyday issues as personal hygiene and appearance, clothing and equipment, permissible personal property and personal funds, and mail regulations. Expected behavior with regard to telephone calls, visits, inmate request slips, and quiet hours conclude this section. The disciplinary procedures followed if an inmate has engaged in punishable conduct are appended.
