Abstract
The subthemes of the conference were coalition building and integration of STD and HIV programs, the integration of prevention and early intervention services, and the integration of STD/HIV programs and drug abuse programs. Among the topics discussed in the plenary-session presentations were the meeting of the SSTD/HIV challenge through collaboration and coalition building, the impact of HIV and STD on the public health infrastructure, women and adolescents and STD/HIV, the epidemiology of drug abuse in the United States, and the Centers for Disease Control strategic plan for HIV prevention. The workshops discussed women and HIV, working with culturally diverse populations, substance abuse and HIV, youth and HIV, outreach and education strategies, and program development and management. Highlights of the workshops are summarized.
