Proceedings of the 1985 Congress of the American Correctional Association (ACA) provide key speeches and papers from sectional meetings that cover such topics as community corrections, jail design, offender special needs, and prison industries.
Abstract
Announcements of a corrections achievement award and a speaker's award are followed by four speeches which discuss the root causes of crime, using assets and proceeds of crime to fund criminal justice programs, policing policies, and public perceptions of the criminal justice system. Papers on community corrections address adult and juvenile programs, as well as policy issues. Other presentations discuss programming for female offenders, international corrections, jail design and management, litigation trends, and direct supervision. The papers on offenders' special needs focus on sexual offenders and alcohol and drug abusers. Additional topics covered in the conference include corrections professionals' understanding of blacks, public relations strategies as exemplified by California's corrections department, inmate education, and the impact of prison industries on the private sector. The proceedings provide the executive director's annual report, provide the executive director's annual report, minutes of the delegate assembly meeting, and resolutions adopted by the assembly.
