REVIEW OF RESEARCH LITERATURE AND RESULTS OF A SURVEY OF OFFICIALS AT MAJOR POLICE AND CORRECTIONAL AGENCIES IN GERMANY AND THE NETHERLANDS CONCERNING THE NATURE OF THIS FORM OF CRIME AND THE METHODS USED TO CONTROL IT.
Abstract
REVIEWED ARE STATISTICS AND RESEARCH ON TRADITIONAL FORMS OF PROFESSIONAL CRIME, INCLUDING CRIMINAL METHODS, OFFENDER PERSONALITY, AND POLICE METHODS IN EUROPE AND THE UNITED STATES. ON THE BASIS OF SURVEY RESPONSES, THE STUDY DETAILS CURRENT INCIDENCE, ORGANIZATION, AND METHODS OF OPERATION OF ORGANIZED AND PROFESSIONAL CRIME. AREAS EXAMINED INCLUDE BIG CITY CRIME, THEFT OF LUXURY ITEMS, TRAFFIC IN DRUGS AND WEAPONS, ART THEFT, COUNTERFEITING, ROBBERY, EXTORTION, AND PROSTITUTION IN GERMANY AND THE NETHERLANDS. DISCUSSED IS DEGREE TO WHICH CRIME IN EUROPE IS ORGANIZED, INCLUDING THE ROLE OF SICILIAN-ITALIAN CRIMINALS AND OF AMERICAN ORGANIZED CRIME. ALSO REVIEWED IS THE ROLE OF ORGANIZED CRIME IN THE GROWING INCIDENCE OF WHITE COLLAR OFFENSES SINCE WORLD WAR II. IN ADDITION, AN OVERVIEW IS PROVIDED OF EXISTING AND SUGGESTED POLICE ORGANIZATION, PERSONNEL, AND EQUIPMENT AIMED SPECIFICALLY AT PROFESSIONAL CRIME. --IN GERMAN
