THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE COURT ADMINISTRATORS' PROFESSIONAL STATUS IS TRACED BY DESCRIBING NEW UNIVERSITY PROGRAMS FOR THE TRAINING OF COURT MANAGERS AND BY OUTLINING THE GROWTH OF PROFESSIONAL STANDARDS FOR COURT MANAGERS.
Abstract
MANAGEMENT OF THE JUDICIAL SYSTEM IS BECOMING A SPECIALIZED SKILL, AND THOSE ENGAGED IN IT ARE SEEKING AND EARNING PROFESSIONAL STATUS. IT IS NOTED THAT SYSTEMATIC TRAINING IS LARGELY RESPONSIBLE FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF THIS NEW PROFESSION. THIS TRAINING IS AVAILABLE FROM THE INSTITUTE FOR COURT MANAGEMENT AND FROM VARIOUS UNIVERSITIES. IT IS OBSERVED THAT COURT ADMINISTRATORS ARE NOW FULFILLING CERTAIN 'PREREQUISITES' OF THE PROFESSIONAL STATUS. THEY ARE DEVELOPING CERTAIN EDUCATIONAL PREREQUISITES INVOLVING A CLEARLY DEFINED BODY OF KNOWLEDGE, EVOLVING PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITY AND COMPETENCE, AND FORMING PROFESSIONAL SOCIETIES AND ORGANIZATIONS. THE DEGREE PROGRAMS IN COURT ADMINISTRATION DEVELOPED BY THE AMERICAN UNIVERSITY AND THE UNIVERSITY OF SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA ARE BRIEFLY DESCRIBED, AND A CASE STUDY OF THE PROFESSIONAL TRAINING PROGRAM IN COURT ADMINISTRATION AT THE UNIVERSITY OF DENVER COLLEGE OF LAW IS PROVIDED.
