This summer 1991 edition of New Jersey juvenile justice data and trends covers arrests, crisis-intervention, detention, court, correctional, and drug-abuse trends.
Abstract
Data on arrests encompass the nature of the offenses, demographic profiles of arrestees, geographic trends in arrests, and the overall trends in arrests. Data on juvenile-family crisis intervention pertain to the work of Juvenile-Family Crisis Intervention Units whose aim is to divert status offenders form family court to an appropriate social-service intervention and community support services. Data on family court and probation cover the number of delinquents in family court, probation services, a computerized data system for probation, and the community-service disposition. Juvenile-detention data address the number of juveniles in secure detention, the continuation of overcrowding, the demographics of juvenile detainees, and short-term commitment. Corrections data cover institutions, residential programs, day programs, demographics, contract programs, and parole. The special section on drugs provides data on the nature of the problem, the extent of juvenile drug involvement, and policy directions and their impact. 7 tables, figures, and 8 notes
