This report examines the characteristics that distinguish program completers from program noncompleters for residents released from Massachusetts Halfway Houses, Inc. (MHHI) during 1977 and 1978.
Abstract
For the total combined sample of 1977 and 1978 releases, 14 variables produced statistically significant differences. In rank order of their significance, the variables were number of furloughs, prior juvenile incarcerations, age at first arrest, number of juvenile paroles and juvenile parole violations, number of prior charges for crimes against property, committing institution, number of successful furlough outcomes, number of prior court appearances, number of escape furlough outcomes, minimum sentence, age at release, number of prior charges for escape offenses, age at prerelease placement, and number of prior charges for crimes against the person. The data were collected from the Massachusetts Department of Corrections Central Office files and from the computerized data base developed by the Correction and Parole Management Information System. Findings are discussed in detail. Statistical data and three references are appended. (Author abstract modified)
