BASED ON AN AMERICAN JUDICATURE SOCIETY STUDY, THIS ARTICLE EXPLORES THE PARAMETERS OF THE STATE COURT ADMINISTRATOR'S POSITION, QUALIFICATIONS, RESPONSIBILITIES, AND FUTURE TRENDS.
Abstract
THE STUDY FOUND THAT A COMBINATION OF LEGAL AND ADMINISTRATIVE EXPERTISE IS USUALLY REQUIRED FOR THE COURT ADMINISTRATORS. STAFFS OF STATE COURT ADMINISTRATORS HAVE AN AVERAGE OF FIFTEEN PROFESSIONALS AND FIFTEEN CLERICAL WORKERS. FORTY-THREE PERCENT OF THE STATE COURT ADMINISTRATOR'S OFFICES HAD BUDGETS RANGING FROM $300,000 TO $1,500,000. THE AVERAGE SALARY OF THE ADMINISTRATOR IN 1976 WAS 31,544 DOLLARS. COMMON RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE STATE COURT ADMINISTRATOR INCLUDED: SECRETARIAT TO BODIES CONNECTED WITH THE JUDICIAL BRANCH; STATISTICAL COLLECTION AND JUDICIAL ASSIGNMENT; INFORMATION COMPILATION; LIAISON; FISCAL MANAGEMENT; AND RESEARCH AND PLANNING....DMC
