EXCERPTS FROM THE REPORT OF THE NATIONAL ADVISORY COMMISSION ON CIVIL DISORDERS DESCRIBING EVENTS WHICH OCCURRED DURING THE 1967 RIOTS IN NEWARK AND DETROIT.
Abstract
THE EXCERPTS ARE DESIGNED TO INDICATE HOW THE DISORDERS HAPPENED, WHO PARTICIPATED IN THEM, AND HOW LOCAL OFFICIALS, POLICE FORCES, AND THE NATIONAL GUARD RESPONDED. SOME GENERAL CONCLUSIONS ARE OFFERED ABOUT THE PATTERNS OF DISORDER. SUPPORTING COMMENTARY BY THE COMMISSION CALLS FOR LONG-TERM PROGRAMS TO ELIMINATE THE DISCRIMINATION AND POVERTY THAT BREED RIOTS.
