COOPERATIVE REGIONAL LEVEL PLANNING AND COORDINATION FOR METROPOLITANWIDE CRIME CONTROL THROUGH A VOLUNTARY INTERGOVERNMENTAL COUNCIL.
Abstract
THE DIMENSIONS OF THE CRIME AND DELINQUENCY PROBLEM IN THE WASHINGTON METROPOLITAN AREA AND THOSE MAJOR CRIME PROBLEMS WHICH CAN BE MET IN PART BY COOPERATIVE, REGIONAL LEVEL PREVENTIVE ACTION ARE IDENTIFIED. SPECIFIC PROGRAM ACTIVITIES ARE RECOMMENDED IN THE FIELDS OF LAW ENFORCEMENT AND CRIMINAL JUSTICE. AN ORGANIZATIONAL STRUCTURE IS SUGGESTED WHICH ENCOURAGES COMMUNICATION AMONG THE VARIOUS LOCAL COMPONENTS OF THE CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM TO ESTABLISH PRIORITIES, PREPARE AN ANNUAL BUDGET, AND EVALUATE NEW PLANS. ANTICIPATED LEVELS OF FUNDING HELP DETERMINE PRIORITY PROGRAMS FOR THE FIVE YEARS FROM 1969 TO 1974.
