The Program of Research on the Causes and Correlates of Delinquency is designed to improve understanding of the development of delinquent and prosocial behavior of children and adolescents.
Abstract
The study sites of the research teams selected to participate in this Program of Research are in Rochester (New York), Denver (Colorado), and Pittsburgh (Pennsylvania). The three prospective studies, over the course of five years, will collect data that allow for the interpretation of the causal sequencing of key events in childhood and adolescence. Each study examines factors operating prior to the major onset of delinquent activity, and is likely to document predictive factors that can help to identify youth most likely to be delinquent later. A major expected outcome is a better understanding about preventive, therapeutic, and juvenile justice system interventions. An overview summarizes the distinguishing factors of each of the three studies.
