Prepared for law enforcement officers who work with the elderly, this handbook reviews the fundamental principles of program planning and implementation and outlines practical techniques necessary for effective programming with older persons.
Abstract
The section on planning considers topics of interest to older adults, communications techniques that focus on vision and hearing, and appropriate teaching methods. Also discussed are visual and audiovisual aids. The guide sequentially outlines the major tasks involved in implementing a successful program. These guidelines are supplemented by forms and checklists designed to provide the program facilitator with practical tools adaptable to his or her needs. Areas addressed are the facilitator's tasks, planning a calendar of events, sponsors, program topics and variations, site/facility selections, speakers, program moderator, costs, legal aspects, invitations, publicity, site preparation and physical arrangements, refreshments, clean-up, literature and displays, evaluation, and recognition.
