SUMMARY RESEARCH ASSESSMENT AND EVALUATION OF THE FINAL YEAR OF 'ARRIBA', A THREE-YEAR PROJECT ADDRESSED TO MINIMIZING DELINQUENCY VIA AN EDUCATIONAL-TUTORIAL AND CULTRUALLY SUPPORTIVE APPROACH.
Abstract
THE SPECIFIC HYPOTHESES TESTED ARE THAT CHILDREN UNDER PROJECT 'ARRIBA' WILL HAVE GREATER ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT GAINS AND POSITIVE SELF-IDENTITY AND WILL NOT BE AS INVOLVED IN DELINQUENT BEHAVIOR AS A CONTROL GROUP OF CHILDREN NOT ON SUCH A PROGRAM. THESE HYPOTHESES WERE ALREADY FOUND TO BE GENERALLY SUPPORTED IN THE SECOND YEAR EVALUATION REPORT (THE RESULTS OF WHICH ARE CONTAINED IN APPENDIX I). THIS REPORT IS A REITERATION OF THE ARRIBA EXPERIENCE/EXPERIMENT, THE EVALUATION OF ARRIBA'S THIRD ACTION YEAR, AND A DISCUSSION OF THE THREE YEAR IMPACT OF THE PROGRAM. THIS THIRD-YEAR EVALUATION WAS BASED ON DELINQUENCY STATISTICS, TEACHER BEHAVIORAL ASSESSMENT, WIDE RANGE ACHIEVEMENT TEST (WRAT) GAINS, GAINS IN SELF CONCEPT, AND COMMUNITY PARTICIPATION. TABULAR DATA ON THESE EVALUATION MEASURES ALONG WITH PRE AND POST-TEST DATA ON THE WRAT ARE PRESENTED. EVALUATORS CONCLUDED THAT ALL THREE HYPOTHESES WERE SUPPORTED BY THE RESULTS OF THE STUDY.
