EVALUATION OF A PROJECT OF THE YUKON (OK) POLICE DEPARTMENT TO REDUCE BURGLARY IN THE CITY AND INCREASE CLEARANCE RATES.
Abstract
TWO ADDITIONAL POLICE OFFICERS WERE HIRED TO FOCUS ON THE CRIME OF BURGLARY. IN ADDITION, ONE OF THE NEW POLICEMEN WAS DESIGNATED AS A JUVENILE OFFICER AND WAS TO DEVOTE HIS EFFORTS TO JUVENILES IN ANY CRIMINAL OFFENSES. TWO SOURCES OF INFORMATION WERE EMPLOYED TO ASSESS THE PROJECT'S IMPACT. UNIFORM CRIME REPORT INFORMATION ON YUKON POLICE DEPARTMENT'S CRIME, ARREST AND CLEARANCE RATES AS WELL AS INFORMATION ON THE VALUE OF STOLEN PROPERTY FOR 1974 AND 1975. POLICE OFFENSE REPORTS WERE USED IN THE APPLICATION OF THE CRIME SERIOUSNESS INDEX. RESULTS INDICATE THAT WHILE THE INCIDENCE OF BURGLARY DECREASED, THE VALUE OF STOLEN PROPERTY DID NOT.
