METHODS AND FINDINGS FROM A FIRST-YEAR EVALUATION OF A PROJECT INVOLVING TWO YOUTH SERVICE CENTERS FOR JUVENILE PROBATIONERS AND PREDELINQUENTS IN OKLAHOMA CITY, OKLA., ARE SUMMARIZED.
Abstract
THE NEIGHBORHOOD CENTERS OFFERED INTENSIVE PROBATION SUPERVISION AND COUNSELING SERVICES TO YOUTHS FROM AREAS OF THE CITY KNOWN TO HAVE HIGH RATES OF REFERRAL TO THE JUVENILE COURT. THE PROJECT WAS EVALUATED IN TERMS OF ITS IMMEDIATE, INTERMEDIATE, AND ULTIMATE OBJECTIVES. ALL OF THE IMMEDIATE OBJECTIVES (PLANNING, IMPLEMENTATION, ETC.) WERE ACCOMPLISHED, AS WERE MOST OF THE INTERMEDIATE OBJECTIVES (REDUCTION OF PROBATION COUNSELORS' CASELOADS, TRAINING OF STAFF AND VOLUNTEERS, ETC.). PROGRESS WAS MADE TOWARD ACHIEVING THE ULTIMATE OBJECTIVES OF REDUCED DELINQUENCY AND INCREASED DIVERSION. OVERALL, THE PROJECT'S FIRST-YEAR PERFORMANCE WAS EVALUATED FAVORABLY. A BRIEF OVERVIEW OF PROJECT DEVELOPMENT EFFORTS, A SUMMARY OF A LITERATURE REVIEW UNDERTAKEN IN CONNECTION WITH THE EVALUATION, AND A BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE EVALUATION PROCESS ACCOMPANY THE SUMMARY OF EVALUATION FINDINGS.
