A PAROLEE REHABILITATION PROGRAM DEALING WITH PROBLEMS OF VOCATIONAL APPRAISAL, MOTIVATION, SKILL TRAINING, COUNSELING, EDUCATION, AND JOB PLACEMENT.
Abstract
MAJOR COMPONENTS WERE SELECTION AND GROUP INTAKE OF PAROLEES, GROUP PRE-VOCATIONAL ORIENTATION AND COUNSELING, INDIVIDUAL CAREER PLANNING, AND FOLLOW-UP COUNSELING AND GUIDANCE. THIS REPORT GIVES PARTICULARS OF PROJECT PROGRAMS AND THE SELECTION OF PARTICIPANTS AS WELL AS THE FINDINGS AND RECOMMENDATIONS OF A STUDY COMPARING PAROLE DELINQUENCY AND RECIDIVISM RATES OF A GROUP OF PROJECT PAROLEES TO THOSE OF A CONTROL GROUP OF REGULAR PAROLEES. AN IMPORTANT ADJUNCT TO THE PROJECT WAS THE EMPLOYMENT AND DIAGNOSTIC CENTER WHICH COMBINED PSYCHOLOGICAL SERVICES TO ASSESS VOCATIONAL POTENTIAL, PREVOCATIONAL TRAINING, AND CAREER COUNSELING ACTIVITIES. RECOMMENDATIONS RESULTING FROM THE STUDY INCLUDED THE NEED TO EXPERIMENT WITH RESIDENTIAL ACADEMIC TRAINING FACILITIES FOR OFFENDERS AND A REQUIREMENT FOR ADEQUATE VOCATIONAL TRAINING FUNDS WHICH CAN BE ADMINISTERED BY THE OPERATING AGENCY RATHER THAN BY THE LARGER, PARENT ORGANIZATION.
