ON NOV. 18, 1971, A JURY IN THE ERIE COUNTY, OH., COURT OF COMMON PLEAS RETURNED A PLAINTIFF'S VERDICT FOR $9,600 IN MCCALL V. CLEMENS, A ROUTINE PERSONAL INJURY CASE.
Abstract
THIS WAS THE FIRST TRIAL IN ANGLO-AMERICAN JURISPRUDENCE IN WHICH ALL THE TESTIMONY WAS PRE-RECORDED ON VIDEOTAPE, EDITED BY THE JUDGE, AND THEN PRESENTED TO THE JURY FREE OF ALL OBJECTIONS AND COMMENTS OF COUNSEL. IN 1972 THE SUPREME COURT OF OHIO PROMULGATED CIVIL RULES THAT AUTHORIZE RECORDED TRIALS. ERIE COUNTY, WITH TWO VIDEOTAPE STUDIOS IN OPERATION, ESTABLISHED A DUAL DOCKET SYSTEM IN THE COMMON PLEAS COURT. (AUTHOR ABSTRACT MODIFIED)....ELW
