THE BOOK IS INTENDED AS A STUDY GUIDE FOR ENGLISH POLICE OFFICERS PLANNING TO TAKE EXAMINATIONS FOR PROMOTION WITHIN THE DEPARTMENT.
Abstract
WHILE AIMED PRIMARILY AT THE ESTABLISHED OFFICER STUDYING FOR PROMOTION EXAMINATIONS, THE BOOK CAN ALSO HELP THE PROBATIONER OBTAIN A GREATER UNDERSTANDING OF HIS RESPONSIBILITIES AND THUS TO DEVELOP SELF-CONFIDENCE AND LEADERSHIP. THIS VOLUME CONTAINS TWO PARTS DEALING WITH THE PRACTICE AND PROCEDURES OF LAW; THE FIRST IN RELATION TO CRIME, AND THE SECOND IN RELATION TO GENERAL POLICE DUTIES. SUCH SUBJECTS AS THE PRINCIPLES OF CRIMINAL LIABILITY, DEGREES OF CRIMES, OFFENSES AGAINST THE PERSON, THE POLICE AND ASSOCIATED ORGANIZATIONS, COMMUNITY LEGISLATION, PUBLIC SAFETY, AND PUBLIC ORDER, ARE DISCUSSED USING A QUESTION AND ANSWER FORMAT. BECAUSE KNOWLEDGE OF THE MORE IMPORTANT DECIDED CASES AFFECTING POLICE WORK AND PROCEDURE IS NECESSARY FOR THE OFFICER, SUCH CASES HAVE BEEN REVIEWED WHERE APPROPRIATE. AN INDEX IS PROVIDED. (KBL)
