Abstract
THE JUVENILE JUSTICE SYSTEM IN THE STATE OF MISSOURI FACES A CRITICAL NEED WHICH MUST BE MET IF THIS SYSTEM OF POLICE, COURT, INSTITUTIONAL, PROBATION AND AFTERCARE SERVICES IS TO EFFECTIVELY PREVENT, CONTROL AND TREAT THE PROBLEM OF JUVENILE CRIME. ON APRIL 12, 1971 THE TASK FORCE BEGAN ITS STUDY OF THE NEED FOR FACILITIES AND PROGRAMS FOR THE CONTROL AND REHABILITATION OF HYPERAGGRESSIVE BOYS ADJUDICATED DELINQUENT BY THE COURTS. THE PROTECTION OF THE COMMUNITY AND URGENCY OF THE NEED GAVE THE TASK FORCE LITTLE CHOICE IN DECIDING UPON THIS STUDY AS A TOP PRIORITY. PROJECTS COVER THE ENTIRE JUNVENILE JUSTICE SPECTRUM FROM PRE-ARREST PROGRAMS TO THOSE FOR ADJUDICATED DELINQUENTS. THE TASK FORCE ON JUVENILE DELINQUENCY RECEIVED A GRANT OF $50,000 (PROJECT NO. AC5A 70) FOR THE PURPOSE, AMONG OTHERS, OF CONDUCTING A FEASIBILITY STUDY OF THE NEED FOR A HIGH-SECURITY FACILITY FOR DELINQUENT BOYS. (AUTHOR ABSTRACT)
