FUNCTIONS, INFORMATION REQUIREMENTS, AND DATA FLOWS USED IN THE OFFICES OF THE MASSACHUSETTS ATTORNEY GENERAL, DISTRICT ATTORNEYS AND MEDICAL EXAMINERS.
Abstract
EACH OFFICE IS EXAMINED SEPARATELY. THEIR GENERAL PURPOSES AND FUNCTIONS ARE PRESENTED ALONG WITH THE APPROPRIATE MASSACHUSETTS STATE LAWS. AFTER A BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF OFFICE ORGANIZATION, THE PATTERN OF INFORMATION TRIGGERED BY STANDARD OCCURRENCES, CALLED EVENTS, IS DISCUSSED IN DETAIL. FOR EXAMPLE, THE INFORMATION PROCEDURES FOLLOWED BY THE OFFICE OF THE STATE ATTORNEY GENERAL WHEN IT CONDUCTS AN ORGANIZED CRIME INVESTIGATION AND PROSECUTION ARE DISCUSSED WITH REFERENCE TO HOW INFORMATION IS RECEIVED, RECORDED AND TRANSFERRED BETWEEN THE VARIOUS INDIVIDUALS CONCERNED WITH THE INVESTIGATION. FLOW CHARTS ILLUSTRATE THE OPERATIONS PERFORMED AS DATA IS ACCUMULATED AND STORED. THE DISTRICT ATTORNEY EVENTS INCLUDE INDICTMENT RETURNED BY GRAND JURY AND CASE DISPOSED. THE PROCEDURES INVOLVED WHEN THE MEDICAL EXAMINER INVESTIGATES A DEATH ARE ALSO PRESENTED.
