As protection officers employed in both the public and private sectors take on more order-maintenance duties traditionally performed by public police, they face an increasing array of situations that can expose them to danger, violence, civil liability, and job-related stress.
Abstract
This booklet discusses a range of measures protection officers can take to lessen these threats. Protection officer survival is based on physical survival and physical fitness, the degree of care taken when approaching suspect persons, psychological stability, and an understanding of legal liability. Some of the more detailed issues discussed here include searching and handcuffing suspects, conducting legal search and seizures, interrogating a suspect, and reporting on an incident scene. The booklet also reviews tips on writing reports, performing fixed post duties, and reducing the dangers of patrolling. The final sections deal with weapons, vehicles, and defensive tactics.
