This paper examines two methods for analyzing written statements: the application of the Flesch Reading Ease Index and of the Stylistics to confession statements.
Abstract
The former tests whether the written material is consistent with the reading ability and comprehension of the witness. The latter, defined as the relation between messages and the characteristics of human individuals who select and interpret them, has been used to compare authorship of written or recorded texts. Examples of the applications of both techniques to test authenticity of confession statements in cases are given. A total of 31 references are supplied. (Author abstract modified)
