Five independent samples of sex offenders were used to provide a wide range of offender and response set characteristics for internal consistency, covergent and divergent validity, and redundancy analyses for the Multiphasic Sex Inventory (MSI).
Abstract
The MSI provides information that is independent of personality and psychopathology tests and data that corroborate with physiological indices of arousal. The MSI scales also demonstrate moderate to high levels of internal consistency and considerable convergence and divergence with other measures. Notable limitations of the MSI include its face validity and potential contamination by response biases. Consequently, scale scores should be interpreted with careful consideration of the assessment setting and respondent motivation. Research needs to focus on developing MSI validity indicators sensitive to response sets specific to various evaluation settings. 2 notes, 5 tables, and 24 references
