This article describes a relatively simple method of analyzing different phthalocyanine pigments in paint chips.
Abstract
Visible light spectroscopy accurately discriminated paint fragments of similar color but which contained different pigment compounds. This method is effective in identifying phthalocyanine pigments because of their large absorptivity in both the visible and near-infrared regions of the spectrum. Because this is a destructive technique, laboratory personnel may want to use it only after conducting FT-IR microscopy, electron microprobe analysis of the fragments. 2 tables, 2 figures, and 2 notes
