This document is the Quarterly Performance Update for the Recovery (ARRA) Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) Program using additional funds provided by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act during the period January through December 2011.
Abstract
For the period January through December 2011, 51 percent of the ARRA JAG funds were allocated to activities supporting law enforcement; 13 percent were allocated to planning, evaluation, and technology improvement; 12 percent to corrects and community corrections; 9 percent to prosecution and courts; 7 percent to drug treatment and enforcement; 6 percent to prevention and education; and 2 percent to crime victim and witness protection programs. Key findings on funds used to support task forces that served judicial search warrants, arrested gang members, seized firearms, and dismantled and disrupted drug trafficking or other street gang organizations during the period January to December 2011 include the following: 95 percent of judicial search warrants served occurred at the State level; 82 percent of gang members that were arrested were charged with a felony; 35 percent of firearms seized were reported to the National Integrated Ballistic Information Network (NIBIN); and 93 percent of defendants accepted for prosecution on felony charges were charged at the State level.
