Abstract
TRADITIONAL POLICE INFORMATION-USE MODELS ARE DISCUSSED AND AN ALTERNATIVE APPROACH IS OUTLINED. THE TRADITIONAL MODELS DESCRIBED ARE THE REACTIVE MODEL IN WHICH THE MAJORITY OF INFORMATION COMES TO THE POLICE FROM OUTSIDE THE DEPARTMENT AND THE PROACTIVE MODEL IN WHICH THE POLICE ACTIVELY SEEK OUT INFORMATION ON CRIMINAL ACTIVITIES.
