STEPS IN THE CONSTRUCTION OF AN INFORMATION-USE MODEL IN WHICH INFORMATION IS COLLECTED IN RELATION TO ITS KNOWN CONTRIBUTION TO THE MAKING OF CASES IN THE PAST.
Abstract
TRADITIONAL POLICE INFORMATION-USE MODELS ARE DISCUSSED AND AN ALTERNATIVE APPROACH IS OUTLINED. THE TRADITIONAL MODELS DESCRIBED ARE THE REACTIVE MODEL IN WHICH THE MAJORITY OF INFORMATION COMES TO THE POLICE FROM OUTSIDE THE DEPARTMENT AND THE PROACTIVE MODEL IN WHICH THE POLICE ACTIVELY SEEK OUT INFORMATION ON CRIMINAL ACTIVITIES.
