Abstract
THE CORRECTIONAL FIELD IS IN AN ERA EMPHASIZING THE RESOCIALIZATION OF OFFENDERS THROUGH EDUCATION. TODAY'S CORRECTIONAL EDUCATOR, NO LONGER THE CHAPLAIN TEACHING THE PRISONER TO READ THE BIBLE, IS A SPECIALIST COMBINING THE BEST ASPECTS OF ACADEMIC AND VOCATIONAL EDUCATION WITH MODERN SOCIALIZATION TECHNIQUES OF COUNSELING AND GROUP THERAPY. HE STRIVES TO IMPART TO THE INMATE THE SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ATTITUDES NECESSARY FOR SUCCESSFUL ADJUSTMENT TO SOCIETY. THE INDIVIDUAL READINGS IN THIS VOLUME ARE GROUPED IN SEVEN SECTIONS, DISCUSSION SUBJECTS RANGING FROM THE DEVELOPMENT AND OBJECTIVES OF PRISON EDUCATION TO INSTRUCTIONAL MODELS FOR INMATES AND CORRECTIONAL EDUCATORS. THE USE OF LIBRARIES AS INSTRUCTIONAL MEDIA CENTERS FOR AIDING SELF AND SOCIETAL-AWARENESS, AND THE USE OF RESEARCH ARE TREATED IN SEPARATE SECTIONS. INTRODUCTIONS TO EACH SECTION PROVIDE BACKGROUND MATERIAL AND UNDERSCORE THE RELATIONSHIP OF EACH CHAPTER TO IMPORTANT ISSUES IN THE FIELD. (AUTHOR ABSTRACT MODIFIED) (SNI ABSTRACT)
