This book presents lessons to help teachers, caregivers, and parents in giving children regular social skills lessons.
Abstract
The book contains a ready-to-use curriculum based on real-life situations to help build students' self-esteem, self-control, respect for the rights of others, and a sense of responsibility for their own actions. It is presented in sections concerning: (1) listening; (2) conversing; (3) using persuasion; (4) dealing with feelings; (5) using self-rewards; (6) helping others; (7) solving conflicts peaceably; (8) self-control; (9) keeping your composure; (10) dealing with peer pressure; (11) responding to failure; (12) dealing with an accusation; (13) dealing with group pressure; (14) problem-solving; (15) goal-setting; (16) gathering information; (17) setting priorities; (18) decision making; and (19) getting and keeping a job. Each lesson covers: purpose, introduction, skill components, modeling the skill, behavioral rehearsal, practice, independent use, and continuation (suggestions for reinforcing the skill through the school year), and includes reproducibles.
