TECHNIQUES FOR TRAINING ANTI-TERRORIST SPECIALISTS IN MARKSMANSHIP BY SIMULATING REAL SITUATIONS ARE DESCRIBED.
Abstract
THE AUSTRALASIAN TRAINING AIDS GROUP OF COLUMBIA, S.C., HAS DESIGNED A SERIES OF URBAN MARKSMANSHIP RANGES AND TRAINING COMPLEXES WHICH ARE NOW BEING MARKETED AS PART OF DART (DISAPPEARING AUTOMATIC RETALIATORY TARGETS) TRAINING SYSTEMS. THESE RANGES AND COMPLEXES ARE TAILORED TO THE CLIENT'S SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS FOR THE TRAINING OF SPECIALIST FORCES OR UNITS. THE PORTABLE RANGE SYSTEM, FOR EXAMPLE, CAN BE EASILY INSTALLED IN RURAL OR URBAN SETTINGS WHERE IT CAN BE CONTROLLED BY CABLE OR BY A PORTABLE RADIO TRANSMITTER. THROUGH THE USE OF A PORTABLE TRANSMITTER UNIT, AND INSTRUCTOR CAN ACTIVATE TARGET MECHANISMS, MOVING TARGET SYSTEMS, RETALIATORY DEVICES, EFFECTS WEAPONS, AND ANY OTHER DART EQUIPMENT BEING USED AT THE TIME. A HIT REGISTRATION AND RECORDING SYSTEM IS ALSO AVAILABLE, WITH THE HIT SENSORS ON ALL MECHANISMS CAPABLE OF RECORDING HITS AT A RATE OF UP TO 1200 ROUNDS PER MINUTE, WITH NO ADJUSTMENT REQUIRED FOR DIFFERENT CALIBERS OF SMALL ARMS. A NIGHT EFFECTS SIMULATOR IS DESIGNED TO PROVIDE REALISTIC NIGHT MARKSMANSHIP TRAINING, AND THE USE OF A REMOTE TRIGGER ACTIVATOR PROVIDES INSTRUCTORS WITH AN ALTERNATIVE INDEPENDENT FACILITY FOR SIMULATING ENEMY FIRE. THE TRAINING SYSTEM IS PARTICULARLY APPROPRIATE FOR THE TRAINING OF ANTITERRORIST SPECIALISTS BECAUSE OF THE SUPERIOR MARKSMANSHIP SKILL DEVELOPED IN A VARIETY OF CIRCUMSTANCES. (RCB)
