This Senate hearing considers proposed legislation reauthorizing the Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention Act of 1974.
Abstract
Three Senate proposals are presented: (1) S. 2434 to extend the Juvenile Justice Act and Runaway Youth Act for 4 years, (2) S. 2441 to extend the act for 5 years, and (3) S. 2442 to extend the Juvenile Justice Act for 4 years. Expert witnesses discuss issues relevant to reauthorization; they include LEAA and other Federal program representatives, directors of social service agencies, and agency clients. Witnesses present their rationales concerning support for the proposed reauthorization bills. Their prepared statements are appended, as are statements from members of Congress, the Department of Justice, State and national organizations, and private citizens. A statistical report on Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention grants and cost obligations is also appended.
