This study examined the impact a vocational education program had on the recidivism rate of youth incarcerated in the State of Colorado Department of Institutions.
Abstract
The population under study included 403 youths incarcerated between July 1984 and June 1985. The study also explored the demographic characteristics of these youths, based on the fact sheet provided by the Division of Youth Services and vocational information provided by the Colorado Community College and the Occupational Education System. The findings showed that youths who participated in the vocational training program had a significantly lower recidivism rate, while the recidivism rate for those who participated only in the academic program was significantly higher. 5 tables, 6 figures, and 12 references
