This document provides the text of the Recodified Juvenile Court Act (Public Act 85-601) of Illinois.
Abstract
The Act is designed to provide for the protection, guidance, care, custody, and guardianship of the persons of male and female juveniles who are delinquent, require authoritative intervention, are addicted, or are abused, neglected, or dependent. It also prescribes court procedures relating to such juveniles; provides for probation, social service, and psychiatric personnel; and sets forth the financial responsibilities of the State and its Counties. General provisions of the Act provide definitions and detail rights of parties to proceedings, the role of the State's attorney, confidentiality and accessibility of law enforcement and juvenile court records, expungement of records, and admissibility of evidence. Separate articles deal with procedures and proceedings involving addicted, delinquent, abused/neglected, and dependent minors and those requiring authoritative intervention (status offenders). Issues considered include child custody, adoption, termination of parental rights, hearings, petitions, committal procedures, appointment of guardians ad litem, and dispositional alternatives.
