This guide is designed to assist researchers and practitioners develop successful collaborations to help stop violence against women.
Abstract
The National Violence Against Women Prevention Research Center (NVAWPRC) developed this guide in recognition of the fact that successful collaborations between researchers and practitioners will enhance the response to violence against women. The guide outlines the core components of successful partnerships and provides tips for assessing the credibility of collaborative research projects. The guide explains that collaborations benefit women victims of violence because they aid researchers in identifying the important issues to be studied and they aid practitioners in developing effective programs and outreach efforts. Eight tips for making successful collaborations are offered, including the importance of developing clearly stated goals and establishing a shared vision of the desired outcome. The guide also outlines effective ways of initiating collaborations and developing shared goals. Tips are offered for practitioners who are curious about how to assess the qualifications of researchers and the adequacy of the research being proposed. Likewise, a section is offered for researchers who seek to assess the qualifications of practitioners. Finally, the guide offers recommendations concerning ethical considerations, how to effectively disseminate research findings, and how to identify supportive funding.
