AS A RESULT OF THIS TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE EFFORT, RECOMMENDATIONS ARE PROVIDED ON THE COURT'S RECORDS, BUDGET, STAFFING, PERSONNEL ORGANIZATION, AND USE OF THE NEW JUVENILE COURT FACILITY.
Abstract
THE CONSULTANTS FOR THE TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE MADE A SITE VISIT TO PASCAGOULA ON MAY 18-20, AT WHICH TIME THEY MET WITH THE YOUTH COURT JUDGE, OFFICIALS OF THE MISSISSIPPI DIVISION OF LAW ENFORCEMENT ASSISTANCE, AND OTHERS INVOLVED IN THE COURT'S OPERATIONS. THE ANALYSIS OF THE EXISTING SITUATION AND PROBLEMS OF THE YOUTH COURT IS PRESENTED. SEVERAL PROBLEMS WERE NOTED WITH RESPECT TO COURT RECORDS, CALENDARING, LACK OF ADEQUATE COURT PROCEDURES, AND LACK OF PLANNING. A TOTAL OF ELEVEN RECOMMENDATIONS WERE DEVELOPED; THESE ARE PRESENTED IN THIS REPORT ALONG WITH EXPLANATORY NOTES. RECOMMENDATIONS INCLUDE PROVISION OF STAFFING AND FINANCIAL SUPPORT FOR THE NEW FACILITY, PROVISION OF STANDARD MULTI-COPY FORMS, DEVELOPMENT OF JOB DESCRIPTIONS, PROVISION OF ADDITIONAL PERSONNEL, AND DEVELOPMENT OF A MANUAL INFORMATION SYSTEM.
