Abstract
This 2012 Annual Report presents information on the activities, services, accomplishments, structure, and future goals of the Regional Information Sharing System (RISS) Program. RISS is an innovative, evidence-based, and cost-effective program that works to strengthen the country's information sharing environment and support the Nation's public safety mission. The program is administered by the U.S. Department of Justice, Office of Justice Programs, Bureau of Justice Assistance, and is used by criminal justice professionals in all 50 States, the District of Columbia, U.S. territories, Australia, Canada, England, and New Zealand. Highlights of RISS's accomplishments in 2012 include the following: an increase in RISS member agencies, an increase in the number of authorized RISSNET users, the development of over 32,000 analytical products, deployment of the RISSafe mobile application, the sponsoring or cosponsoring of 908 training opportunities for law enforcement, responding to more than 184,000 requests for intelligence research support, and continued support of other programs such as the Nationwide Suspicious Activity Reporting Initiative and the National Virtual Pointer System.
