In a region in southern Louisiana that has been heavily impacted by offshore energy development, where the economy consequently has shown considerable fluctuation, the relationship between unemployment rates and the reported FBI index crimes was examined for a 54-month period.
Abstract
It was found that both larceny and assault were significantly correlated with unemployment rates. The theoretical implications of these findings are discussed. (Author abstract)
