DISCUSSION OF THE REHABILITATIVE COUNSELING NEEDS OF EX-OFFENDERS WHEN THEY ARE VIEWED AS 'SOCIALLY DISABLED' PERSONS.
Abstract
THE NEED FOR COUNSELORS TO RECOGNIZE THEIR OWN STRENGTHS AND LIMITATIONS, THE SPECIAL NEEDS OF THEIR CLIENTS, AND SOCIETY'S PERCEPTIONS OF EX-OFFENDERS IS EMPHASIZED. AFFIRMATIVE APPROACHES TO OVERCOMING BARRIERS IN THE COUNSELING RELATIONSHIP WHICH ARE DESCRIBED INCLUDE SELF-HELP GROUPS, PEER COUNSELING, AND THE USE OF PARAPROFESSIONALS.
